The Journey of Dementia Help
Founded by Christina Collison in 2017, Dementia Help began as a simple Facebook page offering advice for carers. Christina was motivated by her personal experience of caring for her late mum, Hazel, who had vascular dementia, for ten years. Navigating the complexities of dementia care, Christina felt the urge to share her insights and support others who might be facing similar challenges.
Useful Information on Dementia
As a magazine editor passionate about sharing useful information, Christina launched the Dementia Help website in 2018. This platform quickly became a valuable resource for dementia carers, health professionals, and families.
To further extend her reach, Christina introduced the Dementia Help magazine in 2023, a free publication designed to provide practical advice and emotional support for dementia carers.
From Personal Challenge to Community Support
Christina’s own caring journey was fraught with difficulties. She recalls feeling isolated and under-informed at the start of her mum’s diagnosis, with only a leaflet from the GP to guide her. Determined to change this for others, she poured her heart and soul into creating a platform that offers comprehensive support and practical advice.
Her personal story of resilience and dedication has touched many lives. By sharing her experiences, Christina has built a community where carers can find the information and emotional support they need.
Christina says: ‘I’d like to dedicate this award to my late mum Hazel, along with the wonderful Dementia Help community I’ve gotten to know on Facebook and through my magazine. My experiences with dementia care were immensely challenging, so I truly understand what other carers are going through. I am here to help and support you in any way I can. I am genuinely thrilled to have had the quality of our content recognised as a trusted and authentic source of information, and I’d like to thank my wonderful editorial and tech team for their continued support.’
