Suffolk-based Christies Care, a live-in home care agency, has kindly sponsored the Dementia Help Cycle Challenge and is doing its bit to raise awareness of the charity ride, with a member of staff recently taking part in a photoshoot to promote the challenge.
Helen Drain, Dementia Trainer & Deputy Training Team Leader from Christies Care, based in Saxmundham (https://www.christiescare.com), took part in a photoshoot on Friday 1st June outside Sax Velo’s Saxmundham store with Peter and Jon Bray from Sax Velo.
Helen says: ‘I enjoyed the shoot and helping out where I could. I really hope all goes well with the Cycle Challenge. I know Peter is training hard.’
Dementia Help’s co-director Peter Berry will cycle 330 miles across the country with support from keen cyclist and full-time carer Jan Dodd from 25 to 30th June.
Peter says: ‘I’m looking forward to the challenge – it’s given me a purpose and something to focus on. I want to prove that a person with dementia can still achieve goals and raise as much money as I can for charity.’
Established in 1987, Christies Care is a family-owned business and has received an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest providers of 24 hour, seven-day a week care in the UK.
Live-in care offers a convenient alternative to living in a residential or nursing home, with a carer on hand to provide round-the-clock support. This enables those in need to care to remain in their own home, where they have built many memories over the years, and maintaining their own routine and social schedule. The Dementia Help Cycle Challenge will raise vital funds for YoungDementia UK (https://www.youngdementiauk.org). Peter was diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s at the age of 50 and had to give up his business, which had been in his family since 1947.
